Stroke: The Silent Threat You Must Recognise

Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted by a blocked, narrowed, or ruptured vessel. Brain cells lose function and die quickly. Without timely treatment, it can lead to disability or become life-threatening.
Remember BE FAST warning signs: Balance — dizziness, unsteadiness, loss of balance. Eyes — double vision, blurred vision, or sudden vision loss. Face — drooping face or mouth, uneven smile.

Arms — weakness or numbness on one side, inability to raise an arm. Speech — slurred, difficult, or absent speech, or trouble understanding. Time — get to hospital immediately, ideally within 4.5 hours.
Prevention and self-care: keep blood pressure, lipids, and blood sugar in a healthy range; quit smoking; exercise regularly; and eat a nutritious diet.
